Wendys Ends LPGA Sponsorship

2006 Wendys ChampionshipDUBLIN, Ohio -- The Wendy's Championship for Children LPGA event is ending after an eight-year run because of a disagreement between the title sponsor and the Tour over a date for next year.
'We were not offered an acceptable 2007 tournament date,' Wendy's interim CEO Kerrii Anderson said Thursday in a statement.
The Wendy's Championship for Children was played last week at Tartan Field Golf Club, with Lorena Ochoa winning by three strokes.
Tournament organizers and Wendy's had been discussing the event's spot on the 2007 schedule with the Tour for several months.
A message seeking comment was left Thursday with LPGA commissioner Carolyn Bivens, who hinted last week that the tournament would not be back in August.
