Woosnam Not Interested in Ryder Cup Deputy Spot

PORTMARNOCK, Ireland (AP) -- Ian Woosnam said Friday he'd rather qualify for the Ryder Cup as a player than be vice captain again.
Woosnam missed out on the captaincy for the 2004 event to Bernhard Langer on Thursday. He was vice captain to Sam Torrance when Europe won the trophy last September at The Belfry.
``I'm going ahead to try to make the team -- turn my game around and qualify, then hopefully get the captaincy (in 2006),'' Woosnam said at the Irish Open.
The Ryder Cup is scheduled for September 17-19 at Oakland Hills, Michigan.
