This week the 2016 fantasy golf season heads to Texas, as 144 players tee it up at the AT&T Byron Nelson. Each week, a panel of experts will offer up their picks from four groups of players, based on Golf Channel's fantasy game, Fantasy Challenge. We will also keep track of their scores and standings. The panel includes: senior writers Rex Hoggard and Randall Mell; editorial director Jay Coffin; associate editor Will Gray; 'Morning Drive' host Gary Williams; host Charlie Rymer and defending fantasy champion Ryan Lavner.
Group 1: Zach Johnson: Although he struggled on the weekend after a fast start at The Players, his wedge game and putting are always an advantage at TPC Four Seasons Resort.
Group 2: Jimmy Walker: The Texas native has a history of playing well in his home state and he finished runner-up last year at the Nelson.
Group 3: Colt Knost: His solid play last week at TPC Sawgwrass was no surprise to those familiar with his game, and the Dallas-area resident has a history of playing well in the Metroplex.
Group 4: Bobby Wyatt: His fourth-place finish in New Orleans gave him a boost in his quest to gain PGA Tour status, but he'll need another solid week if he's going to avoid Web.com Tour Finals later this year.
Group 1: Dustin Johnson: Five straight top-20 finishes at this event for DJ, and after his solid play in the spring there's no reason to think that trend will end this week.
Group 2: Charley Hoffman: Hoffman tends to play some of his best golf in Texas, having won a few weeks ago in San Antonio and having tied for second at this event a year ago.
Group 3: Colt Knost: The Dallas resident and former SMU standout will have plenty of fan support this week, but his course-record 63 last week on the Stadium Course shows that he may improve on last year's T-10 finish.
Group 4: Robert Garrigus: Long hitters tend to thrive at this event, so I'll take a chance with Garrigus, whose record here includes five top-30 finishes in the last seven years.
