2011 PGA Merchandise ShowORLANDO, Fla. – Fashion Week in New York City is 12 days away but it’s already here in Orlando for the golf world. More than 200 golf fashion apparel exhibitors converge this weekend to display their fresh new lines along miles of rows of booths at the Orange County Convention Center. It’s certainly not as glamorous as the tents that will shortly be raised in Bryant Park, but for a golf fashionista, it’s paradise.

Imagine seemingly endless rows of clothing to tickle your fancy no matter what your fashion M.O. may be. From high volume producers like Cobra-Puma Golf to upstart boutiques like Wear to Win, the PGA Merchandise Show has your on-course fashion needs covered.

This year’s show literally has fashion in the forefront with the apparel wing of the show floor anchored by a Callaway Golf runway. Armed with a camera crew and a fashionable pair of flats we walked the convention center catwalk today to scout the biggest trends for 2011.

First impressions are everything and what struck me at this year’s show was how many more choices there are these days for golf apparel. No longer are golfers relegated to the basic baggy collared shirt and pair of khakis. Colors pop everywhere you look and not only in solids. Tie Dye is big this season and so are Quagmire’s ColorFusion shirts that change color with body heat. Sheer fabrics are in and intertwined with performance technology fabric. But it’s the accents and detailing this year that make each piece of clothing truly unique.

The overarching theme of this season’s fashion display is that there is now something for everyone. Expressing your identity on the golf course and distinguishing yourself from others is not only what the apparel vendors are after, it’s what they want for you. And you don’t have to travel to NYC to find it. Shortly, it could be just around the corner at your local golf shop.
