Sluman Sees No Need for Change

FT. WORTH, Texas -- Jeff Sluman says he can see no reason why the PGA Tour should make a ruling outlawing women. Annika Sorenstams presence at the Colonial this week gave no indication that anything should be done, he says.
I think the tour is just fine the way it is now, Sluman said. I dont know why they would do that. I thought the tour was for the best players. You look at what happened this week with Annikas performance, the excitement. I think it was great for the LPGA. I think it was great for golf. I think it was great for our tour.
I see no downside to anything. This isnt going to happen on a regular basis. As Annika said, this was one-and-done for her. Hopefully, she will change her mind. Id like to see her come out once a year because I think it would probably help her game a little bit and create excitement
I dont see any problem with what happened this week. It was a sponsors exemption. They can pick their next-door neighbor, just as long as he is a 2-handicap or less. Thats the reason they have sponsors exemption. I have no problem with it.
When Hal Sutton left the autograph station, there were still a lot of people who wanted his signature. So, as he left, he joked to Stewart Cink, Just sign my name.
Cink got into the spirit of the game, telling the fans, Whos signature do you want? I can pretty much do anybody but youll have to tell me how to spell Sorenstam.
I was just trying to stay in golf the whole week, said Sutton. The biggest problem Ive had all week is getting to the range the first two days. It was very difficult to get to the range for two days this week (with the Sorenstam crowds).
You needed to plan 20 minutes ahead to do that, but I have to commend Annika for the way she handled herself this week. She was under a tremendous amount of pressure, but she really elevated herself, both as a person and as a competitor.
Among the most noteworthy Sorenstam supporters was Nick Price, who had so adamantly opposed her inclusion into the Bank of America Colonial.
It was really impressive (Thursday and Friday), seeing all the people who came out, he said. It was great, and I think she handled everything exceptionally well. I have a lot of admiration for her.
Kenny Perry is wearing colorful shirts with different scenes printed on them, compliments of his sponsor Tabasco. His wife is a big fan of the shirts.
Ill tell you what, it gives me color, said Perry. My wife likes them. She said I used to wear all those solid colors and I was pretty blah out there. She says it finally gives me some color out there.
