To pod or not to pod? That's the question every U.S. Ryder Cup captain has been asked since Paul Azinger used his pod system to lead the U.S. to its last win over Europe in 2008.
According to the New York Post, U.S. captain Tom Watson hasn't picked Azinger's brain about his winning strategy, although Watson said in a teleconference last week, "The pod system has very beneficial elements to it, and I'll be using it in some modified form in the preparation of this next week."
Azinger said the only thing Watson consulted him on was his decision to expand the captain's picks to four. Watson reduced it this year to three.
“That’s all he wanted to know," Azinger said.
Watson may not need much help. After all, he guided the U.S. to victory in 1993 at the Belfry – and they haven't won in Europe since.
