PHOENIX – Paula Creamer can tell you what makes the JTBC Founders Cup so different.

Marilynn Smith, one of the 13 LPGA founders, followed Creamer around during the pro-am Wednesday. At one point, Creamer saw Smith, who is 84, waving her over to the ropes.

“Paula, get over here,” Smith said. “I don’t care if you want to hear this or not, I need to help you. You need to get your left foot down. You’re getting jumpy.”

Creamer, who won her last LPGA start, acknowledged that her footwork is something that can cause her problems.

Smith won 21 LPGA titles. She’s one of only four founders who remain alive. Shirley Spork is also here this week. Louise Suggs and Marlene Bauer Hagge were not able to attend.
