PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – In one of the featured groups this week at the Honda Classic, it was impossible to miss Billy Horschel grabbing his left armpit after nearly every shot.
When asked about the injury after his round Friday at PGA National, Horschel said that his left lat muscle was tight and that he’s been dealing with discomfort for the past week.
“I’m not sure what causes muscle spasms,” he said, “but I’m just guessing it’s a little tight and doesn’t want to give up.”
Horschel said the injury would “catch” when he was over the ball or initiating his downswing. He said he had never had muscle spasms in that area.
“It’s not a big deal,” he said. “It’ll get fixed. It’s not why I played bad.”
Horschel hit only 10 greens each of the first two rounds, shooting 73-73 and sitting well outside the cut line at the Honda. It will be his second missed cut in his past three starts. Last year, he had one of the longest made-cut streaks on Tour, at 23.
