Sam Horsfield has withdrawn from the Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team, citing personal reasons.
He will be replaced on the 10-man squad by Ewen Ferguson. The Scot has plenty of international team competition and is ranked 40th in the world amateur rankings.
Horsfield, a freshman at Florida, is the second-highest ranked Englishman in the world (No. 22). He recently reached the quarterfinals of the Western Amateur and the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur.
When reached Monday morning, Horsfield's coach at Florida, JC Deacon, said: "Sam had to WD for some very personal reasons. He's an amazing kid and is making the best of the situation."
The Walker Cup will be held Sept. 12-13 at Royal Lytham and St. Annes.
