“You’ll probably never see me do that again. Obviously it was seen and known. It’s just really frustrating. I should never respond to any of that. Just let it go and by the time the next tournament rolls around, no one even remembers it anyway." – on why he responded to negative comments on social media  -

Westport Golf Club served as the site of one of Rory McIlroy's earliest triumphs, and now the Irish course is running a promotion that may cost it dearly should the Ulsterman triumph at Augusta National next month.

McIlroy claimed the Irish Amateur Close Championship at Westport in 2005 when he was just 16 yeras old, a precursor to a professional career that has already included two major victories. According to the Irish Golf Desk, the course in County Mayo is currently running a promotion whereby anyone that books a round through its website from now until April 13 - Masters Sunday - will receive a free round if McIlroy dons the green jacket.

McIlroy's best finish to date at Augusta National was a tie for 15th in 2011, when he led after each of the first three rounds before collapsing with a final-round 80. He is currently listed at 8/1 to win the Masters according to the Las Vegas Hilton, with world No. 1 Tiger Woods the only player boasting lower odds at 6/1.

The standard greens fee for a round at Westport this summer (April to September) is 45 euros, which is approximately $63.
