One week after making LPGA history, Ha Na Jang is now topping the leaderboard in search of the title that eluded her a year ago. Here is how things look after the opening round of the Coates Golf Championship, where Jang leads by three shots:

Leaderboard: Ha Na Jang (-7), In Gee Chun (-4), Sei Young Kim (-4), Jodi Ewart Shadoff (-4), Kelly Tan (-4), Candie Kung (-4), Kim Kaufman (-4), Lydia Ko (-3), Lexi Thompson (-3)

What it means: Jang garnered headlines last week in the Bahamas with a hole-in-one on a par-4, and she is again in the mix after a sterling opening round. Jang finished T-2 last year in the inaugural edition of this event, but so far she appears keen to do one better this time around. A large group of players, highlighted by Chun, sit three shots back, while the world No. 1 is one shot further back.

Round of the day: Jang went bogey-free Thursday in Ocala, starting her round on the back nine with three birdies in her first six holes. She made the turn in 4-under 32, then added three more birdies over her final five holes to pull clear of the early pack.

Best of the rest: Chun broke through last year at the U.S. Women's Open, and she is again in contention after a bogey-free 68. Chun birdied two of her first three holes and missed only three greens in regulation while taking 30 putts to complete her round.

Biggest disappointment: Stacy Lewis came achingly close to ending her victory drought last week in Atlantis, but she was unable to bring that momentum back with her to the mainland. Lewis didn't make a birdie until her 12th hole of the day, and by then she was already 3 over on her round. After a 2-over 74, she has work to do to make the cut.

Main storyline heading into Thursday: All eyes will be on Jang as she looks to maintain her advantage, but don't sleep on the large group of big names at 3 under. Led by Ko, who shot 69 in her first competitive round of the new year, Thompson and Cristie Kerr are among the top-ranked players who remain in the early mix after solid opening rounds.

Quote of the day: "I felt very comfortable today, because last year I had a second place, so I really have more confidence on this golf course." - Jang
