India's Anirban Lahiri rebounded from a double bogey on No. 12 to build a four-shot lead at the CIMB Classic. Here's how things stand after three rounds in Kuala Lumpur.
Leaderboard: Anirban Lahiri (-19), Justin Thomas (-15), Russell Knox (-15), Hideki Matsuyama (-14), James Hahn (-14), Derek Fathauer (-14)
What it means: Lahiri made three birdies on the front nine Saturday, and he added two more at the turn before giving up the lead with a double at 12. But the 29-year-old closed strong with birdies at 14, 15, 17 and 18. Lahiri has won twice on the European Tour (including the 2015 Malaysian Open) and seven times on the Asian Tour, but he has yet to win on the PGA Tour.
Round of the day: With no wind and ball in hand on a soft golf course, there were plenty of low numbers. Nobody was lower than Australia's Scott Hend. The Asian Tour money leader recorded nine birdies and no bogeys for a flawless 63.
Best of the rest: Scott Piercy nearly won last week in Napa, and he is six back heading into the final round after a 5-under 67. Adam Scott, Emiliano Grillo and Tyrone Van Aswegen all moved into a tie for ninth with 6-under 66s.
Biggest disappointment: Thomas, the defending champion, started the day with a two-shot lead, but he only managed a 1-under 71 in Round 3. Still, it was a very impressive 71. Thomas was dropping out of contention before closing with five consecutive birdies to stay in the hunt.
Shot of the day: Kevin Na didn't need the putter at the 177-yard, par-3 8th:
Quote of the day: ''I have to go out there and keep making birdies.'' - Lahiri on his approach for the final round
Main storylines heading into final round: Lahiri is determined to win on the PGA Tour, but how will he handle the pressure? He will sleep on the 54-hole lead for the first time in his career, and there will be plenty of experienced Tour winners like Knox, Matsuyama and Thomas chasing him, too. Last week in an Asian Tour event in Macau, Lahiri birdied the last seven holes to force a playoff, but lost on the first extra hole. That's more motivation for him this week.
