Here’s news that ought to make the LPGA envy the Ladies European Tour.
The LET announced Friday that it’s teaming up with the men’s European Tour next year to stage tournaments together at the same venue during the same week.
The LET’s Lalla Meryem Cup and the European Tour’s Trophee Hassan II will both be played at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Morroco May 5-8. The women will play on the Blue Course while the men play on the Red Course.
Earlier this year, both events were staged in the same city during the same week in Morroco but at different golf clubs on different properties.
“I am sure that this development will result in more exposure for women’s golf and widespread positive media coverage for the sport as a whole,” LET chief executive officer Ivan Khodabahksh said in a statement. “We are delighted to be working with the European Tour, particularly in the year that golf returns to the Olympic Games and following the recent announcement of the mixed European Sports Championships in 2018.”
Scotland’s Richie Ramsay won the Trophee Hassan II earlier this year while France’s Gwladys Nocera won the Lalla Meryem Cup.
Khodabahksh thanked the Trophee Hassan II Association for “its vision” bringing the events together.
“It is wonderful to work with such creative partners and to be part of making history in Morocco,” Khodabahksh said.
