OCALA, Fla. – Stacy Lewis would have enjoyed more down time this offseason, but she spent a good month trying to find a new golf ball to play.
Lewis has played the 2009 version of the Titleist ProV1X ever since it came out, but Titleist is no longer making the ball. Lewis said it came off the conforming list as of Jan. 7.
“I begged to be able to play the same ball,” Lewis said. “I don’t like change.”
Lewis says she tested almost every ball on the market and has decided to play Bridgestone’s B330-RX. She believes change is going to be good.
“I feel like it’s a ball that’s really going to help my game a lot, help control with my wedges,” Lewis said.
Lewis swept the LPGA’s most coveted season-ending awards last year, taking the Rolex Player of the Year, Vare Trophy for low scoring average and the money-winning title. No American had done that since Betsy King in 1993.
Still, Lewis was frustrated she didn’t deliver more than three victories. She says her six second-place finishes stuck with her.
“That’s what motivates me this year,” Lewis said. “Last year could have been an unbelievable year.”
