OWINGS MILLS, Md. – American Stacy Lewis turned her right ankle stepping on a sprinkler head at the third hole in her practice round Tuesday morning for the International Crown but says she’ll be fine for the start of fourball matches on Thursday at Caves Valley Golf Club.
“I rolled my ankle pretty good,” Lewis said. “The sprinkler heads here are pretty deep. They're down in the ground pretty far. But I'll be fine. We got two more days before we play. So it's all good.”
Lewis, No. 1 in the Rolex world rankings, had the ankle wrapped when she walked with no noticeable limp into the media center for an American team news conference a few hours after her practice round.
“I'll get some treatment on it today and tomorrow, but it will be fine,” Lewis said. “It's not an issue. If anything, it's helping me stay down and not jump in front of the ball, which I've been trying to work on for two weeks, so maybe it's a good thing.”
Lewis will be paired with Lexi Thompson as her fourball partner in the opening round. They’re scheduled to play Chinese Taipei’s Yani Tseng and Phoebe Yao at 10:45 a.m. ET.
