Brittany Lincicome shot a 4-under 68 Friday and will take a three-shot lead into the weekend at the Wegmans LPGA Championship, where she looks to win her second career major. Here's what you may have missed from Day 2 in Rochester:
Leaderboard: Brittany Lincicome (-9), Inbee Park (-6), Lexi Thompson (-6), Lydia Ko (-5), Meena Lee (-5), Jane Park (-5)
What it means: One off the lead to start the day, Lincicome opened with a bogey, her only dropped shot of the day. From there, she birdied Nos. 5, 9 and 12 and added an eagle at the par-14th to go along with 13 pars. Lincicome, 28, is a five-time LPGA winner and one-time major champion, but she hasn't won on tour since the 2011 Canadian Women’s Open and hasn't tasted major victory since the 2009 Kraft Nabisco.
Round of the day: Paraguay's Julieta Granada posted the round of the day and the tournament with a 7-under 65 Friday. Her bogey-free round included five birdies and an eagle at the par-5 third.
Best of the rest: Following an even-par 72 on Thursday, Inbee Park vaulted herself into second place Friday with a 6-under 66. Like Lincicome, Park eagled 14, and she added five birdies against just one bogey.
Biggest disappointments: Overnight leader Lexi Thompson traded three bogeys with three birdies for a second-round 72, failing to hold her lead or progress any further under par. Meena Lee, who started the day tied with Thompson, was the only player in the top 13 not to shoot par or better with a 1-over 73.
Storylines heading into weekend: Big names like Thompson and Park will be around to challenge Lincicome with 36 holes to go. Thompson is looking for her second career major and second of the season following her win at the Kraft Nabcisco, and Park is looking for her fifth career major and fourth in the last two years. Meanwhile, there are seven names, including Granada, Suzann Pettersen and Shanshan Feng, within five shots of the lead at 4 under.
