The LPGA announced Tuesday that it has extended the contract of commissioner Mike Whan through the 2020 season. The announcement came via a memo from the LPGA’s chairman of the board Mike Trager which was sent to all members of the LPGA.

Trager noted many of Whan’s achievements since he joined the LPGA in 2010, following a tumultuous stint by Carolyn Bivens, which ended in 2009. Five years ago the LPGA had 23 events with a combined purse of $40 million and now the numbers have skyrocketed to 33 events with a $60 million total purse. Television coverage has increased from 200 hours to 400 hours during the same span.

“Since 2010, the growth of our organization has been nothing short of spectacular,” Trager wrote.

“While we are certainly pleased with the growth we’ve experienced over the last five years, I firmly believe we are poised for even greater success based on the talent assembled across our entire organization.”
