Hunter Mahan on Wednesday became the first pro athlete to be sponsored by Ace Hardware.

The 91-year-old company, which is the largest retail-owned hardware cooperative in the world, signed Mahan to a multi-year agreement. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Though Ace worked with NFL legend John Madden during his broadcasting days, Mahan will be the first pro athlete to be sponsored by the company.

As part of their new relationship, the six-time PGA Tour winner will wear the Ace logo on his apparel and appear in a new commercial in April promoting the company’s Free Store Pickup program.

Apparently, one of the factors that sealed the deal for Ace was Mahan’s decision to withdraw from the 2013 Canadian Open to be with wife Kandi, who was in labor back home in Dallas.

“Hunter is not only a standout player on the Tour, but a standout person and family man as well,” Jeff Gooding, the senior director of consumer marketing, said in a release. “He matches the qualities of our brand and our retailers, so our partnership is a perfect fit.”

In other Mahan news, it appears his early-season schedule could be in flux with his wife expecting the couple's second child sometime in February.
