PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Hideki Matsuyama withdrew from the Honda Classic before Friday’s second round citing injury.
Matsuyama told PGA Tour officials he hurt his right hip flexor.
At No. 11 in the Official World Golf Ranking, Matsuyama was the fifth highest ranked player in the field this week. He opened play Thursday with a 1-over-par 71.
Matsuyama won the Waste Management Phoenix Open three weeks ago and tied for 11th at the Northern Trust Open last weekend. There was no immediate word on whether he’ll be able to play the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump Doral next week.
