CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. – Rory McIlroy’s putter betrayed him at the 12th hole Saturday at the BMW Championship.
McIlroy struggled to a 72 to fall nine shots off the lead. His day went sour with a triple bogey at the 12th. He four-putted from 4 feet 5 inches.
“The 12th hole just really derailed me,” McIlroy said.
McIlroy missed from 4 feet 5 inches, missed from 4 feet 9 inches and missed from 2 feet.
“The first two putts, I didn’t lose my concentration,” McIlroy said. “I just completely misread the first one. Then just hit a bad putt with the second one. The third one I was just going for a tap in and just lost concentration.”
