ORLANDO, Fla. – Rory McIlroy apparently ate like a king next to The King Thursday night at Bay Hill.
“[He] made me have a banana split,” he joked after his round Friday, patting his stomach. “I’ll be going to the gym this afternoon.”
For two-and-a-half hours in the clubhouse here, McIlroy listened to stories from Arnold Palmer alongside Palmer’s longtime agent at IMG, Alastair Johnston, API tournament director Scott Wellington and McIlroy’s manager, Sean O’Flaherty.
Unlike McIlroy’s chat last Sunday with Jack Nicklaus – in which the six-time Masters winner instructed the world No. 1 to try and hit the middle of every green – this discussion had little to do with golf. Instead, it focused on Palmer’s brand and business savvy – from his famous drink to his golf-course designs.
“In 60 years as a professional golfer and commercially, obviously, he’s done quite well,” McIlroy said. “It was just great to be in his presence and great to be in his company.”
