SAN FRANCISCO – Earlier in his Sunday championship match against Gary Woodland at Harding Park, eventual winner Rory McIlroy joked that he was never sure when it was appropriate to offer the “good-good” option when both players are facing short putts.

The topic came up again at No. 15 with the world No. 1 holding a commanding 3-up lead and both players within 3 feet of the hole for par.

“He didn’t know when to go, ‘good-good,’” Woodland laughed. “On [No.] 15 I told him this is the time we go ‘good-good.’ He didn’t go for it. He just laughed about it.”

McIlroy closed out the match on the next hole for a 4-and-2 victory and his second World Golf Championship title in the last 12 months.
