PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Kevin Na was born in Seoul, South Korea, but moved to the United States when he was 8 years old and referred to himself on Friday after a second-round 69 gave him the lead at The Players as a “Korean-American.”

The distinction will create an interesting side note as the golf season inches closer to this year’s Presidents Cup, which will be played in Seoul for the first time in October.

Na is currently 17th on the U.S. Presidents Cup point list and is hoping a solid finish at TPC Sawgrass will improve his chances of making this year’s team.

“If I keep posting top 10s, or win a golf tournament and show consistency I think I can make the team or look good to [U.S. captain] Jay Haas and he can pick me,” Na said.

Unlike in previous years, when U.S. Presidents Cup points were based on earnings, this year’s team will be determined by FedEx Cup points, which will put added importance on qualifying for all four playoff events.
