Update: Oakmont gates now open to spectators

OAKMONT, Pa. – The USGA opened gates to spectators at Oakmont after saturated conditions kept fans off the course early Friday.

Several parking lots and passageways were impassable due to two days of rain and officials warned spectators of “wet, muddy ground conditions” on the course.

The area received more than a half an inch of rain Thursday evening on the heels of nearly 2 1/2 inches of precipitation overnight on Wednesday and during the day on Thursday.

The first round resumed at 7:30 a.m. (ET) and the first wave of Round 2 is schedule to begin at approximately 1:45 p.m.
