NORTON, Mass. – Sean O’Hair, Matt Jones and Jerry Kelly have made the biggest moves in the projected FedEx Cup playoffs standings.
O’Hair shot a bogey-free 4-under-par 67 Sunday to climb into a tie for third at the Deutsche Bank Championship, two shots off the lead.
O’Hair started the week 66th in the FedEx standings and with Sunday’s move was projected to move up 39 spots to 27th.
The top 70 after Monday’s conclusion of the Deutsche Bank move on to the BMW Championship. The top 30 ultimately advance to the Tour Championship for a shot at the $10 million FedEx Cup jackpot.
Jones shot 68 and sits tied for third with O’Hair. Jones moved up 34 spots in the projected FedEx Cup standings to 23rd. Kelly shot 68 and sits tied for sixth. He also moved up 34 spots in the FedEx Cup standings to 60th.
O’Hair, 33, said he is relishing Monday’s opportunity.
“It's what you work hard for,” said O’Hair, a four-time PGA Tour winner looking for his first title since the RBC Canadian in 2011. “All the hard work and the missed cuts and trying to learn from your mistakes. This is what it's all about. I'm looking forward to tomorrow.”
So is Jones, 35, who won his first title at the Shell Houston Open last year.
“Just having a chance to win,” Jones said. “Anytime I have that chance is great. I've had a few chances and I want to do it again.”
Kelly, 48, is looking for his fourth title, his first since the Zurich Classic in ’09.
“It would take something fantastic from me,” Kelly said. “I wouldn't count myself out. But there are some great players out there.”
