LOS ANGELES – Vaughn Taylor waited more than a decade for his third PGA Tour victory and his playing partner at last week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am wasn’t going to make him wait for a commercial flight.

Following his come-from-behind victory on Sunday at Pebble Beach Taylor’s partner, Gregg Ontiveros, said he was flying a private plane to Santa Monica for business and could give the 39-year-old a ride to this week’s Northern Trust Open.

When the two landed on Monday, Ontiveros said he was heading home. “He tricked me,” Taylor smiled on Tuesday at Riviera Country Club. “It was a really nice thing to do.”

The victory assures Taylor full status for two seasons on Tour and, more importantly, his first start at the Masters since 2008. Taylor, who grew up in Augusta, Ga., and attended nearby Augusta State, said he hasn’t played Augusta National since 2008.

“I didn’t want to go back there until I got back in the tournament,” he said, adding, “I’ll definitely go over and play it in the next few weeks when I’m home.”
