SAN FRANCISCO – Rory McIlroy isn't upset that he will have to return to Harding Park Sunday morning to complete his quarterfinal match against Paul Casey.
What bothers the world No. 1 is that the delay could have been avoided.
Officials called the match because of darkness at 8:03 p.m. (PT) with the group on the 21st hole, and McIlroy was asked if he’d ever had play called at a match-play event.
“I'm not sure it's ever really happened before, with the guys pushing tee times back so late, this obviously could have been avoided if we went off a little earlier,” he said.
McIlroy completed his morning match against Hideki Matsuyama at about 1:45 p.m., but didn’t tee off for his quarterfinal match until 4 p.m.
