Andre Tourinho of Brazil shot a 6-under-par 66 on Friday, taking a one-shot lead after 36 holes in the Latin America Amateur Championship in Buenos Aires.

The winner gets a spot in the Masters and the U.S. and British Amateurs and is exempt into the final stage of qualifying for the U.S. and British Opens.

Tourinho is at 8-under 136, one shot ahead of Joaquin Bonjour of Argentina and Matias Domingues of Chile. Domingues matched Tourinho's eight birdies and tied the Pilar Golf Club course record with a 65. Bonjour had the lead until he derailed himself by hitting two balls in the water on the par-3 17th hole and making a quadruple bogey.

"I actually hit the ball better yesterday,” said Tourinho, 24, who graduated from the University of Tulsa in 2012 and has been a member of the Brazilian national team since, winning his national amateur in 2013 and 2014. “Today, I chipped in twice and putted really well.”
