World No. 1 Rory McIlroy will play alongside defending champion Martin Kaymer, while Tiger Woods will go out with Rickie Fowler in the opening two rounds of the 115th U.S. Open. Below are the featured groups for Thursday and Friday, June 18 and 19, at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash. Also, click here for the full-field tee times (all times Eastern):
10:33 a.m. (No. 1)/4:33 p.m. (No. 10): Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Angel Cabrera
Coincidentally or not, all three of these players are Masters champions. Only Cabrera (2007), however, has won the U.S. Open. Mickelson is seeking his first national championship after six career runner-up finishes.
11:28 a.m. (No. 10)/5:28 p.m. (No. 1): Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer, Gunn Yang (a)
McIlroy has taken the last two weeks off, following consecutive missed cuts on the European Tour. He is the reigning British Open and PGA champion, while Kaymer routed the field a year ago to prevail at Pinehurst. Yang is the defending U.S. Amateur champion.
5:17 p.m. (No. 1)/11:17 a.m. (No. 10): Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, Justin Rose
Spieth, who won the Masters, will compete alongside Day, who is vying for his first major title, and Rose, the 2013 U.S. Open winner at Merion.
5:28 p.m. (No. 1)/11:28 a.m. (No. 10): Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler, Louis Oosthuizen
Woods shot a career-worst 85 in the third round of his most recent start, the Memorial. He is a three-time U.S. Open champion, with his most recent major title coming at this event in 2008 (Torrey Pines). Fowler, The Players champion, finished T-2 last year; though, he was eight shots back of Kaymer. Oosthuizen won the Open Championship in 2010 at St. Andrews, which will again play host next month.
