GURNEE, Ill. – The Americans will be looking to ride their Solheim Cup victory to another international team triumph this week at the UL International Crown.

They will make this bid with their two best pairings from that historic Solheim Cup victory last year in Germany.

The Americans will open the International Crown with fourball matches against England Thursday at the Merit Club with Lexi Thompson teamed with Cristie Kerr and with Stacy Lewis teamed with Gerina Piller. Those two pairings went undefeated in Germany (4-0-1, cumulatively). Kerr and Thompson were 2-0-1 as partners, with Lewis and Piller 2-0.

“We’re all really comfortable with each other’s games,” Lewis said.

Each pairing combines a long-ball hitter (Thompson and Piller) with strong iron players. The fourball format is a best-ball game.

Thompson and Kerr will tee off against Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Holly Clyburn Thursday at 10:15 a.m. ET. Lewis and Piller will tee off against Charley Hull and Mel Reid at 10:30 a.m. ET.

There will be a fair amount of Solheim Cup experience in play for England, too. Hull, Shadoff and Reid all have Solheim Cup experience. Hull and Reid were paired together in foursomes in Germany and won their match against Americans Michelle Wie and Brittany Lincicome. Hull is 6-2 in two Solheim Cup appearances.
