USGA introduces international qualifiers for Women's Open

The USGA will introduce international qualifying for this year’s U.S. Women’s Open. 

Officials from the China Golf Association, Japan Golf Association, Korea Golf Association and Ladies European Tour will conduct international qualifying at four sites on May 19. The four courses to hold the qualifiers will be CGA Nanshan International Training Centre, Higashi Nagoya Country Club, Woo Jeong Hills and Buckinghamshire Golf Club. 

International players have won seven of the last nine majors, and 13 of the last 19. Korean-born players have won five of the last six.

Also Monday, the USGA announced that the handicap index limit for the U.S. Women’s Open has been reduced from 4.4 to 2.4.

The 2014 U.S. Women’s Open will be held June 19-22 at Pinehurst.
