Def. champ Villegas needs more Wyndham magic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Camilo Villegas broke a four-year winless drought 12 months ago at the Wyndham Championship.

He needs to rekindle some of that magic again this week at Sedgefield C.C.

At No. 129 on the FedEx Cup points list, Villegas needs a solid week in Greensboro to secure a spot in the playoffs. A year ago, he entered the Wyndham at No. 138, won and made it to the BMW Championship, the third playoff event.

"Obviously, the position in the FedEx Cup shows that the year hasn't been the most consistent year, it hasn't been the best year," Villegas said. "I don't gain anything by just complaining and just looking at ... what I have to do or what I should have done, but just focus on this week."

His one-stroke victory over Bill Haas and Freddie Jacobson has been the lone bright spot the last few seasons as Villegas has struggled to follow up on his two playoff wins in 2008 (BMW and Tour Championship) and the Honda Classic in 2010. Since 2011, Villegas only has seven top-10s.

"If I play good, good," he said. "Obviously that's the plan. If I don't play good, well, it's not the end of the world. Life keeps going. We keep trying to get better and grinding and take it from there."
