DALY CITY, Calif. – Michelle Wie will be looking to build on her best finish this season when she tees it up Thursday at the Swinging Skirts Classic at Lake Merced Golf Club.
Wie looked like she was going to claim her first top-10 finish of the year at the Lotte Championship last weekend until Jenny Shin made a late birdie to bump her down to T-11. While Wie hasn’t gotten off to the start she hoped after winning twice last season, with strep throat and sinus infections slowing her down, she likes where her game is starting to trend.
“Sometimes you just don't play as well as you want to,” Wie said of her sluggish start. “But I do feel like I have been improving. I feel like I have been consistently getting better. So I'm going to use that word again. It's definitely a goal of mine to be consistent. As long as I'm going in an upward trend, that's all I care about.”
Wie loved being back home in Hawaii last week, and she relishes returning to the Bay Area, where she was educated at nearby Stanford. She visited the campus Monday.
“Going to Stanford, graduating from Stanford definitely is one of the proudest moments of my life,” Wie said. “I think coming back here, I just remind myself of that achievement.”
