Robert Allenby says he can’t account for the 2 ½ hours after he left a wine bar last Friday night in Hawaii.
A new witness has come forward, telling Australia’s Channel 9 News that he found Allenby passed out on a sidewalk for more than two hours and that his face had been bloodied after he fell and hitting his head on a rock.
In the TV report, Toa Kaili says he found Allenby at about 11 p.m. Friday. When he and his friend attempted to help Allenby, the Australian accused them of stealing his phone and wallet.
According to Kaili, Allenby told them, “You guys stole my wallet and phone – all right, the gig is up, just hand it over.”
“I was like, 'Oh, no, brother, we are the ones who woke you up – we are the ones just helping you,'” Kaili said in the interview. “He was saying, ‘You don’t know who I am.’”
When Kaili returned two hours later, he said Allenby was still passed out on the pavement, but now with a bloodied face – injuries, Kaili says, that were caused after Allenby fell and hit his head on a rock.
Police announced Tuesday that they are reviewing witness statements and gathering security video footage. No arrests have been made, but they are investigating the case as second-degree robbery and fraudulent use of credit card.
