Woods wearing old shoes after swing change

The earbuds on the practice range were a new look for Tiger Woods on Monday at Augusta, but his footwear was decidedly throwback.

While warming up for his afternoon practice round, Woods appeared to be wearing more traditional golf spikes, unlike the hybrid shoes he's been wearing since 2011.

After fielding inquiries about it on social media, Nike Golf's twitter account confirmed that Woods "made some recent swing changes leading to an adjustment in his footwear. He’s wearing the TW’11."

The hybrid shoes that first became publicly available with the release of the TW'13s were originally created to help better support Woods, who in 2011 was dealing with both knee and Achilles tendon issues.

The move is curious insofar as a swing change apparently necessitated a switch in footwear. The shoe shakeup also follows a pattern of Woods going with a new-old approach, whether it be with his golf swing or even his wedge grinds.
