TROON, Scotland – Phil Mickelson pulled off some of his trademark magic Saturday at Royal Troon when he made a highly unlikely par on the 12th hole.
Mickelson hit a 2-iron off the tee and blew it way left. The ball bounced off a nasty gorse bush and ended up just next to it. Mickelson weighed his options and decided to take a massive swipe through the end of the gorse bush. The ball squirted nicely and ended up back in the middle of the fairway.
Lefty got up and down from around 80 yards, converting the par putt from 10 feet. He was at 11 under, one shot ahead of Henrik Stenson.
