Bear Creek Toolan win Interclub

The Bear Creek Golf Complex from Chandler, Ariz., won the second annual Ping Junior Interclub last week and Blake Toolan took home individual honors at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club in Ft. McDowell, Ariz. Toolan’s victory earned him an exemption into the AJGA’s Ping Junior June 7-10 at Moon Valley Country Club in Phoenix.
Ken Iida, Saki Iida, Kyan Palmer, Brett Wilson and Cameron Palmer lead the five-player team from Bear Creek that defeated Longbow Golf Club in the finals of the event that ultimately began with 25 teams that each consisted of five players. The championship was 36-holes of stroke play where all scores were counted then translated into a points system.
“We’re excited about the participation so far and we have interest from other golf courses in Arizona and are looking forward to next year,” said John Souza, executive director of Junior Golf University, which runs the Interclub event. “Our goal with the tournament is to get kids to play team golf which will better prepare them for high school and collegiate competition.”
The Ping Junior Interclub is a series of tournaments throughout the spring that culminates with the crowning of a team and individual champion for Arizona. Each team is composed golfers that are ages 10-17 and both boys and girls are eligible. Players cannot be over 17 years old on the date of the scheduled competition. Teams competed in division play at golf facilities in their geographic region then advanced onto the regional championship. The five regional champs played at the Arizona State Championship.
