Golf Channel Amateur Tour National Championships Blog

Today marks the official first day of Autumn, but summer’s still cranking in La Quinta, Calif., site of this week’s Golf Channel Amateur Tour (GCAT) National Championships. High temperatures in the range of 106 degrees are forecast all week, which isn’t abnormal even in late September.

The cliché is that “it’s a dry heat” which may sound sarcastic to some, but it’s actually a decent reprieve for those used to more humid climates. Just how big of a difference depends on who you ask, but one thing is for sure, it’s a lot cooler in the shade when the humidity is only 10 percent. Finding abundant tree cover in the desert is easier said than done.
