OSUs Mahan SGA Amateur of March

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Oklahoma State junior Hunter Mahan has been named the first recipient of the Southern Golf Association's new National Amateur of the Month for his exceptional play in March.
Mahan closed with a 65 to take individual honors and lead OSU to victory in the recent Morris Williams Invitational over host Texas and an elite field that included some of the nation's top men's collegiate programs. Mahan, from McKinney, Texas, posted a 14-under-par total of 202 on the Austin C.C. course.
Earlier in the month, Mahan's final-round 67 helped OSU surge past host Nevada-Las Vegas to win the Toyota Men's Collegiate Championship.
Honorable mention was earned by University of Washington junior Brock MacKenzie, who tied the NCAA record with a 12-under-par 60 for co-medalist in the Oregon Duck Invitational at Eugene (Oregon) C.C.
The new monthly SGA award, open to amateurs of all ages, is determined by a selection panel of national golf officials, golf journalists and college coaches. The award will be doled out March through October.
