TOWSON, Md. -- The University of Pennsylvania men's golf team returned to the top of the leaderboard for the first time since Sept. 19, 1999, when it captured the 2003 Drew Upton Tiger Golf Classic hosted by Towson University. Despite heavy rain, wind and sleet at times, senior Chad Perman won his second tournament of 2002-03 as he shot a second-round of 77 to claim the individual honors with a two-day score of 149. The Quakers, who shot a 315 on day two to finish with a team score of 625, were able to hold off Navy by just one stroke as the Midshipmen shot a 310 in the final round to shoot 626 for the tournament. Sophomore Derek Rogers matched Perman for the Quakers' low round of the day with a 77, while seniors Peyton Wallace and Endel Liias contributed rounds of 80 and 81, respectively, to the victory.
It was great to see our team stay mentally prepared through the final round despite the weather conditions,' Men's Golf Coach Heath Davidson said.
The Red and Blue will travel to the Navy Invitational on April 5-6.
