Advil to Leave Western Open

Advil has recently informed the Western Golf Association that it will not extend its three-year agreement past the year 2002 for the Western Open.
Following this years event in July, the pain-relief product had a 90-day window in which to tell the tournament its intentions following the 02 event, which was the last it was required through contract.
David Olivier, Senior Vice President of American Homes, notified the WGA that Advil felt it had been successful in reaching the golfing public through its marketing efforts, and was now deciding to allocate its resources to other sports.
While the letter was dated Sept. 13, the decision was said to not have been made because of the terrorist attacks from two days prior.
