Big Apple a British Qualifier

The Big Apple Classic will serve as a qualifier for the LPGA Tour's final major in 2003, the Wetabix Women's Open.
The Big Apple will be contested July 17-20 at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y. The British Open will take place two weeks later, July 31-Aug. 3, at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club in Lancashire, England.
In order to be eligible, an LPGA player must designate their desire to be in the qualifier and enter the British Open before its July 8 deadline.
The top five scores, from players not otherwise eligible for the British, at the conclusion of the first 36 holes of play in the Big Apple Classic will determine the players who earn spots in the final major of the season.
There is also a European-based qualifiying tournament. Five players will qualify from the Evian Ladies European Tour's Arra Open de France Dames, June 19-22. The balance of the 144-player field will be filled via the tournament's on-site Monday qualifier on July 28.
