Defending Champion Withdraws from the Hope

Defending champion Jesper Parnevik withdrew Tuesday night from the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Parnevik will instead stay at home in South Florida to be with his wife Mia who is due to give birth to their fourth child this week.
'We really thought the baby was going to be born last Saturday, but it was a false alarm. It is so close now, it could happen at any moment,' Parnevik said. 'I have been with my wife at the birth of my first three children, and it is very important for me to be there for the birth of the fourth one.'
Last year, Parnevik picked up his 3rd PGA Tour title with a birdie on the 72nd hole to better Rory Sabbatini by one shot. He also won the 2000 Byron nelson Classic and finished 8th on the money list.
The five-round tournament will begin on Wednesday with players and amateurs playing four courses: the Arnold Palmer Private Course at PGA West, Bermuda Dunes Country, Indian Wells Country Club and La Quinta Country Club. This week's winner will receive $630,000 of the $3.5 million purse.
