Elkington was the fourth player to withdraw after one round at Royal St. George's.
Colin Montgomerie stopped after seven holes because of injuries to his hand and knees when he tripped Thursday morning on his way to breakfast. Paul Azinger pulled out after nine holes because of a bad back.
Jerry Kelly injured the ring finger on his left hand while trying to hit out of the rough on the 17th hole. Kelly, who had an 11 on the first hole and shot 86, spent two hours with therapists Thursday before deciding he shouldn't continue.
Elkington and Montgomerie both were playing with Brad Faxon. Because he was left stranded, the tee times were altered to pair Faxon with Mark Calcavecchia.
