Garcia To Miss Melbourne Match-Play

Spain's Sergio Garcia is the latest player to pull out of the Matchplay Championships in Melbourne, Australia. Garcia joins Tiger Woods, David Duval and Lee Westwood in skipping the event which will start Jan. 4 at Metropolitan Golf Club.
'I try to play a schedule that is best for me,' Garcia said. 'I would like to play the Matchplay, but I need to be fresh for the start of my year, and I would be tired if I played in Australia.'
Tournament director Tony Rosenburg said that, despite the withdrawals, this field will be the best ever to play in Australia with the possibility of 13 of the world's top 20 players competing. 'Regardless of the few big names that we know are going to be missing, the reaction in America is really very, very strong for this event. We're signing them up left, right and center at the moment. It's going very well.'
