On the playoff hole, both men found the fairway at the par-5 18th. Garrido missed the green to the right with his second, before Immelman knocked his second on the front edge of the putting surface.
Garrido pitched his third within three feet of the cup. Immelman rolled his extremely long putt to seven feet. The South African however was unable to convert his birdie putt. Garrido stepped up and knocked in his birdie try for the playoff win.
Garrido entered the round three shots behind Immelman. Garrido opened his round with birdies at Nos. 2 and 4 and rolled in a lengthy birdie putt at the eighth to tie Immelman the lead at minus-14.
Around the turn, the Spaniard really caught fire. He birdied the 10th and 11th to grab a one-stroke lead. Garrido nearly eagled the 12th, but his eagle try lipped out and he tapped in for birdie and a two-shot advantage.
He cooled from there and managed to birdie the par-4 16th, but was unable to birdie the final two holes, each par-5s.
Immelman had moved his lead to three strokes with a birdie at the second, but he bogeyed the next and his lead was just one. He later birdied the eighth to reclaim a one-shot advantage.
He then rolled off six consecutive pars as he briefly fell three shots behind Garrido. Immelman birdied the 15th to move within two, then birdied the par-5 17th to get within one shot.
