Inkster DiVicenzo Lead Certainteed

Nov. 20, 2000 -- Juli Inkster and Roberto DiVicenzo birdied their last four holes Monday to put them atop the standings of the CertainTeed Hall of Fame tournament with a 65.
DiVicenzo chipped in from 30 yards out to start the run, which began on their 15th hole, the course's sixth. The pair started slowly, carding only two birdies the first nine, but finished with birdies on five of their last six holes.
They are two shots better than the teams of Kathy Whitworth and J.C. Snead, and JoAnne Carner and Bob Charles at the tournament played at the World Golf Village at St. Augustine, Fl. Beth Daniel and Johnny Miller are next with 68.
'I'm glad I had a good partner,' said DiVicenzo with a laugh. 'I was lucky today because Juli played so well. I did much better on the front nine than I did on the back nine.'
Inkster said it was to her advantage that the two didn't play together in the field, which included amateurs. 'You don't have to worry about it if you mess up because you know your partner is trying as hard as he can,' she said. 'You've just got to go out and have fun.
'I'm from California and we don't play on Bermuda greens too often. And bad weather doesn't bother me, but there's something about doing it on Monday.'
Whitworth has never in this type format. 'The scoring system had me all wrong,' she said. 'I wasn't playing real well, but I wasn't playing that bad.'
Her partner, Snead, said the tees were placed 'way up. I was afraid to hit it on some holes. It might be more fun to play together, but there might also be some pressure.'
The tournament continues Tuesday with the amateurs and Wednesday with just the pros.
