Irwin has an impressive history in this event ' as he does in several tournaments on the 50-and-over circuit. In addition to his victory in 2001, he finished runner-up in 1998.
Last year, he was one off the 36-hole lead, following a Saturday 63, but closed in 70 to finish in fourth place. It was his 15th consecutive round of par or better at Greystone Golf Club near Birmingham.
Though he didn't win at the Bruno's, Irwin still captured four titles last year, at age 57.
Sammy Rachels was the man who kept Irwin from becoming the first player in the tournaments 11-year history from successfully defending his title.
Rachels defeated Dana Quigley on the second playoff hole to garner his third career victory on tour.
Rachels and Quigley finished at 15-under-par 201 a year ago, six strokes higher than the events 54-hole scoring record of 195, set by Irwin in 2001.
This is the 10th tournament of the season on the senior set. Thus far, there have been 10 different winners.
