Kung Leads LPGA Qualifying Tournament

Taiwans Candie Kung shot a second-round 71 Friday at the LPGA Internationals Legends Course to take the outright lead at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament.
Kung, who won the U.S. Public Links Championship in June, sits at 5-under-par 139 in Daytona Beach, Fla., two shots better than Smriti Mehra, and three better than Ashli Bunch and Beth Bader.
She ' along with all 130 players in the field ' are seeking to finish the week in the top-18 and secure fully-exempt spots on the 2002 LPGA Tour schedule. The next 35 will receive conditional exempt status next season.
Her success on Friday came by way of many things, none less than a straight game off the tee.
I hit my driver better and more solid, and was getting a lot of roll out of it, stated Kung. Im just going to go out tomorrow and play the golf course.
Should Kung stick to her game plan, she may prove a good bet to finish inside that magical top-15.
Not only is she the reigning U.S. Public Links champion, but she also finished third in the last NCAA tournament when just a sophomore at the University of Southern California.
