Lady Bruins Off to Fast Start

College CentralThe second-ranked UCLA women's golf team holds a commanding 13-shot lead after Monday's first round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, hosted by Ohio State at the Palos Verdes Country Club.
The Bruins posted a team score of 286, 2-over par, and lead second-place New Mexico by 13 shots. South Carolina is third at 302, 18 over, followed by Arizona and Ohio State at 303.
UCLA junior Charlotte Mayorkas leads the field after firing a first round 66, 5-under par. Mayorkas, an All-American, birdied the first two holes and never looked back. In all, she carded five birdies, no bogeys and played the front nine in 3-under par.
Sophomore Susie Mathews and senior Gina Umeck are tied for ninth place after posting 1-over par 73s. Mathews birdied the final hole to drop to 2-over par, while Umeck bogeyed the last two holes after playing 16 holes in even par.

Senior Krystal Shearer is tied for 13th at 74 and freshman Hannah Jun is tied for 52nd at 80.
UCLA senior Bridget Dwyer is tied for 44th after posting a score of 79.
Trailing Mayorkas by four shots in second place is New Mexico's Kailin Downs, followed by Julie Tvede of Tulsa and Ohio State's Kristen White at even par.
Second round action continues Tuesday.
